D.O. Manchuela
This appellation is located on the southern border of the DO Valencia, some 100km south of Valencia, in the direction of Albacete. This zone used to be part of the DO La Mancha but gained its independence in 2004.
Its climate is very dry, with hot summers and very cold winters, and little rainfall.
The appellation area lies between two rivers, the Gabriel and the Jucar.
The soils in the valleys have more clay, while the higher grounds have more limestone - some are even 100% limestone. Altitude (between 400 and 700m) is a positive factor.
Bobal -) a red grape - is the main varietal here, but one also finds a lot of local and mostly forgotten grapes like moravia agria, pintaillo, marisancho, merseguera, albillo, monastrell and macabeu. Syrah and other international varieties are also gaining some ground.
