From Romanée-Conti to Raúl Pérez:
Second vintage of Tormenta now available!
Each year, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Verónica Ortega’s new white wines.
Two years ago, her cult white wine “Cal” was made for the last time. "Tormenta" became its successor and has now arrived again in very limited quantities. This is her absolute top-tier white wine.
Last summer, her second white wine “La Llorona” sold out in no time. According to white wine king Rafael Palacios, known for his As Sortes, Verónica produces the best white wines in Castilla y León, and coming from him, that’s no small compliment!
This wine boasts a Burgundy-like character, typical for the Godello grape, combined with a salty acidity and minerality.
And it’s especially that minerality that defines these white wines from Verónica. Even though her white wines age in oak barrels and foudres, this level of quality is reserved for only the greatest winemakers.
All these compliments are, of course, no coincidence: Verónica trained as a winemaker with the greatest names on the planet:
From Romanée-Conti to Raúl Pérez!
R.Parker gave the 2022 vintage an excellent score of 95/100!
95/100
"I love the expressive nose of the white 2022 Tormenta, a rare Godello from limestone soils—very scarce soils in Bierzo—that delivers a sharp and mineral wine. The vines are planted at 650 meters above sea level with the old Godello strain of small grapes and less vigor, delivering wines of more depth and concentration. The grapes were picked early, on September 5, and vinified in oak barrels of different sizes and clay pots, where the wine matured for 13 months. It has restraint and a certain austerity, with a moderate 12.3% alcohol and 6.25 grams of acidity. It's tasty and elegant, with an almost salty finish."
Very impressive.
"Verónica Ortega has managed an impressive collection from the challenging, super warm and dry 2022 vintage, with wines that keep the elegance and freshness. The great terroir prevails, which allows the old vineyards to produce wines of incredible balance, even in difficult vintages like this one."
