Vega Sicilia thus continues the old Spanish custom of blending different vintages to create a perfect balance. In Spain, the few wineries that had their own bottling process traditionally prepared two types of wine from each harvest: the wine from the current vintage and another wine without a specific vintage, which they called “Reserva Especial”. This was a blend of wines from the finest vintages, used to create the wine that best represented the winery. Reserva Especial is the wine with the greatest personality. It combines the complexity of Único from different vintages and offers an enormous range of aromas and pure elegance, resulting in a unique tasting experience. Only the finest Único wines are used to produce Reserva Especial. In this way, it expresses the deepest essence of a unique and unmistakable style: the Vega Sicilia style.

Mixed case 6b. “El Tamboril 2025” Exact contents to follow. Pre-sale: delivery in December 2027. El Tamboril is a 0.5-hectare plot that yields just enough wine each year to produce a single 1,000-litre foudre. Tamboril lies at an altitude of 1,230 metres in the Sierra de Gredos. 2016 was the first vintage ever made; in 2017, the grapes were destroyed by a hailstorm in the vineyard, so no wine was produced that year. It is one of Comando G’s most limited cuvées.

Mixed case 6 b. “Las Iruelas 2025” Exact contents to follow. Pre-sale: delivery in December 2027. Las Iruelas is one of Daniel Landi's "grands crus". It is located in the village of El Tiemblo, in the Province of Avila. In contrast with the other crus where the soil is made of granite, the vines of Las Iruelas grow on slate, facing East, at some 1000 m above sea-level. An outstanding wine.

Mixed case 12b. “Las Umbrias 2025” Exact contents to follow. Pre-sale: delivery in December 2027. One of the first and most famous crus of Comando G, in Rozas de Puerto Real. Facing the East, this 0,5 ha vineyard is located at an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level, on granite soils. Is is conducted according to the biodynamics principles.

Mixed case 6 b. "Rumbo Al Norte 2025" Exact contents to follow. Pre-sale: delivery in December 2027. Single vineyard at an altitude of 1,200m with an area of 0.3 hectares. The vineyard's name refers to its northern orientation. 2010 is the first vintage ever vinified of Rumbo al Norte. Production of +/- 1,400 bottles.

Mixed case 6b. “Tumba del Rey Moro 2025” Exact contents to follow. Pre-sale: delivery in December 2027. On of the most impressive vineyards of Comando G. It was virtually abandoned when Fernando and Daniel found it - and saved it. Facing North, at an altitude of 1100 m, on granite and sand soils, it is only half an hectare, but its vines are 70 years old. The Spanish Château Rayas!

Pre-Sale. Wine will arrive between October and November 2027. The Kokerboom vineyard consists of around 80% white Green Grape and 20% red Green Grape. They pick them together and press them simultaneously. The wine is one of the richest wines produced with pure volume and massive texture. The Semillon ripens very well in this area due to the high solar radiation and the grapes enter the cellar between 13.5 – 14% alcohol.

Pre-sale. Delivery between October/November 2027. The Rotsbank vineyard is located in the Paardeberg in the Aprilskloof on a rock shelf that barely has 30 – 50 cm of soil in most parts. It is incredible to think that this vineyard survives year after year. Many of the roots in the soil have found cracks in this rock shelf, and the limited natural growth of this vineyard makes for incredibly concentrated fruit. Since 2008 we have wanted to produce a Swartland Chenin Blanc, but the 2022 vintage materialised as the first after we were very fortunate to purchase the vineyard.

Pre-Sale. Wine will arrive between October and November 2027. Skerpioen (Scorpion) is a wine from a very unique location halfway between Dwarskersbos and Elands Bay on the West Coast. One of the most amazing aspects of this location is the fact that the soils are chalky (limestone). In addition to that it is one of the coolest parts of the Swartland region, located a mere 2km from the Atlantic Ocean, but it is also a very dry area with an average rainfall of around 300mm per year. This location is home to some of the most intense south-easterly winds and the old vines look almost abused after having been battered by winds and blowing sand for years and years.

The Skurfberg Mountain is part of the Citrusdal mountain area and the word Skurfberg (Rugged Mountain) mainly refers to the edgy and rough appearance of the mountain. The soil is mainly decomposed Table Mountain sandstone formations and tends to be very sandy. It is a truly great site for Chenin and it is most unusual that such a warm and dry area still produces wines with this enormous texture and freshness.

Pre-sale. Wine will arrive between October and November 2027. This co-planted vineyard is planted on the western slope of the Paardeberg. Due to its aspect, it soaks up most of the afternoon sun, hence the name Sonvang (Sun Catch). On this slope, we are able to get the grapes to early maturity, especially on the earlier ripening varietals and, in most cases, with the initial fresh firm acidity. At this point, we are still having multiple picks, but in the future, with pruning dynamics and varied viticulture, we aim to have the entire spread as a singular pick and co-fermentation. We will get there, but for now, we need to get to know this vineyard.

The name means The Footpath in Dutch, and comes from the name of Dirk Brand’s wheat and rooibos tea farm, where the rustic block of old vines is tucked away. This is surely the most isolated old vineyard in the country, presumably originally planted to supply the farmer and his neighbours. Its 1.4 hectares host varieties established in the Cape since the early days of European settlement, with most of the planting done between 1887 – 1928, and all of the vines grow on their own roots . The vineyard’s survival without irrigation is also extraordinary in this hot valley in the north of the huge Swartland region, near the village of Aurora and Elands Bay on the coast. Its precise location has allowed it to survive, with an underground river flowing beneath it from the mountains
