When Xavier Ausàs, winemaker at Vega Sicilia for many years (1988 – 2015), called us 5 years ago to introduce the wine from his new estate, we were all ears.

And we have no regrets: this estate is now one of the great names of Ribera del Duero.

Macán 2021 Rally Pack

With this Macán 2021 it’s “now or never”: it is described as the best vintage to date! No vintage has ever received a higher score.

The wine is made from almost 100% Tempranillo with 1% Graciano, from old vines averaging 60 years of age, a selection from their more than 100 ha of vineyards around San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Abalos, El Villar and Labastida.

2021 is a lovely Atlantic year with the necessary freshness. In Rioja as a whole, it is one of the very best vintages of recent years.

In any case, it is the grape that has earned a top spot in record time in some of the finest wine cellars around the world. Over the past 15 years, Godello has become one of the great success stories of Spanish white wine.

And that is certainly no coincidence:

Usatges 2024

This wine is made from exactly the same grapes as Clos de l’Obac and Miserere, but the blend changes every year. The two flagship wines, on the other hand, keep the same blend every vintage.

Anything that does not go into these two blends is used for Usatges negre. As a result, it always contains a good proportion of Tempranillo.

We have just received the 2024 vintage of this Usatges negre.

A delicious wine at the price of a second wine, but with the quality of a first wine!

The two often go hand in hand: wine lovers who enjoy powerful Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero also tend to appreciate the more powerful Priorats.

Even though the terroirs, grape varieties and regions are completely different…

But wait a minute! There actually is a Priorat that includes Tempranillo in its blend. Hardly anyone knows it, but this has been the case since the very beginning of the Priorat revival.

Tenerife is a favourite holiday destination for many of our customers. And although most of them are also keen wine lovers, few know that in the far north of the island, in Anaga Natural Park, there are some impressive vineyards.

Mas d'en Caçador 2023

Her flagship wine “Mas d’en Caçador” has already received the perfect score of 100/100 several times. And the 2023 vintage was therefore completely sold out through reservations.

When I told her about this in August, she immediately promised to secure a small additional allocation of Mas d’en Caçador for us.

We know Verónica as one of Spain’s most talented winemakers, with a CV that has taken her all the way to Tokyo, via La Romanée-Conti and Raúl Pérez.

ROC is the wine where it all started for Verónica: it comes from her very first vineyard.

Corullón 2023: 97/100

Sorry, I just can’t help myself…

When I taste something this good and I’m still impressed four days later, I have to write about it.

This is top-level Mencía. And it comes from the pioneer of biodynamics in Spain. From the higher parts of Bierzo, exclusively from vineyards on slate soils. Very Atlantic and elegant in style, and even described by some tasters as very “un-Spanish”.

Reserva Especial 2026

Who isn’t a fan of the fantastic wines from Spain’s most famous winery, Vega Sicilia?

From the beautiful Riojas of Macán to the impressive white wines they produce in Tokaj…

But to me, their most exclusive wine is also one of their least known. It is produced at the “mother estate” in Valbuena de Duero (Ribera del Duero), in very small quantities. It is also the wine for which we receive the smallest allocation each year. And I believe this is actually the first time I am really writing about it.

José Gil 2024

Rioja’s most Burgundian wines score up to 99/100!

José Gil works with small plots and very low yields, while demand continues to grow worldwide. His production has to be divided among a large number of international importers. As a result, our Belgian allocation remains very limited.

We have just received the new 2024 vintage. As always, quantities are unfortunately very limited, so don’t wait too long!

Abel Mendoza Blancs 2025

Abel Mendoza is one of the pioneers of great white wines from Rioja.

His wines rank among Spain’s most highly regarded whites, but also among the rarest. Production is extremely limited, as is our allocation for Belgium.

This is especially true of his flagship wine, 5V, a highly sought-after white Rioja with a distinctly Burgundian character.

Well, even after 30 years, the quality of certain wines can still leave you speechless…

And that is exactly what happened here. When you taste this wine and read its story, you know: Spain is only just getting started.

Páramos de Nicasia 2024

Finally back in stock: the honest and delicious wines of Máquina & Tabla

After two years, they have finally managed to convince us with a fresh new take on Máquina & Tabla.

And we couldn’t be happier!

Don’t hesitate: both the white and the red are honest, seriously delicious wines!

The white: a Verdejo with its own twist and plenty of character.

The red: fantastic Tempranillo and Garnacha, full of juiciness and brightness.

Sálvora 2024

Sálvora comes from granite and limestone soils, with vines dating from before phylloxera. Once again, this is a truly extreme wine!

We have already offered this wine in several vintages, but the latest one, the 2024, is genuinely rare.

In fact, R. Parker stated in 2023 that it would be the final vintage. And yet, we have received the 2024! 😉

A Cruceira 2023

Rodri Méndez continues to amaze us with his top white wines!

This A Cruceira is a perfect example…

The wine comes from a gneiss terroir, a mixture of granite and quartz, in Xesteiriña near Sanxenxo. The vines are more than 90 years old.

It is his most saline wine to date!

Luis Gutiérrez also noticed this when tasting it for Robert Parker. He immediately awarded the wine an impressive 96/100.

Palo Cortado

Spain’s most underrated and rarest wines: Palo Cortado.

You have undoubtedly heard of them before. But have you ever tasted one? Almost certainly not!

Yet these are meditation wines of the highest order.

We are huge fans ourselves. And as historic Palo Cortado wines are becoming increasingly rare, we never hesitate when we are offered an allocation.

These wines are truly unique!

La Milana 2021

Martí’s little sister

We should certainly not forget the “wine sister” of Reserva Martí: La Milana 2021.

This wine costs just over half the price of the Reserva Martí I presented on Friday. Yet the same quality standards are applied: organic viticulture and winemaking, strict selection and perfectionism at every stage.

The wine with the little hands

That is what it is sometimes called. Just take a look at the label.

Those little hands belong to Martí Albet, son of Josep María Albet, Spain’s organic wine pioneer.

It was also one of the first great wines in our range. It was produced for the first time in 1994, the year Martí was born. What memories! We were immediately won over. This was a truly outstanding wine, at a level we had rarely tasted at the time.

Valdecañada 2021

Vintage Raúl… Truly outstanding, with tremendous ageing potential.

-Valdecañada, coming from several tiny recovered vineyard plots on slate slopes, with a production of barely 2,000 bottles

-El Cerro de Valdecañada, from the oldest vines on the steepest slope. Only 2 barrels produced, totalling just 600 bottles.

Phenomenal wines, both of them. Take advantage while you can, as our allocation is extremely limited.

And that southern character is already in the name: “Quite” is a term from bullfighting, typical of the region and also a nod to her father, who was active in it.
