Envínate’s most underrated (and most affordable!) wine:
Tried the wines from Envínate in Tenerife or Galicia?
Then have you heard of their project in Almansa? A completely different region, located around the city of Albacete in southeastern Spain. It’s a region dominated by cooperatives and bulk wine production. Quality-focused projects are extremely rare here.
Still, Albahra was actually the first wine we ever imported from Envínate. Just one small pallet per year, offering
outstanding value for money. Which explains why sommeliers always snapped up the majority.
From this vintage (2023) onwards, however, we’ve managed to get a few more bottles in stock — and we can finally offer the wine
to the general public!
The grapes grown in this region are very specific: Tintorera (or Alicante Bouschet) as the base, complemented by the rare Moravia Agria — a variety found only in this part of Spain.
Planted at over 800 m altitude on limestone soils.

It’s a challenging grape due to its strong tannins, but after ten years the Envínate team has it fully under control.
It adds spiced notes to the wine, next to the voluptuous fruitiness of the Tintorera. The result is fresh, vibrant and beautifully persistent.
The perfect summer wine!
And R. Parker agrees: 94/100
“There is a creamy and spicy whiff in the 2023 Albahra, which makes it feel more mainstream. It's juicy and aromatic and has a medium-bodied palate, contained ripeness, 13% alcohol and good balance, with some fine-grained tannins. Last year, they introduced some white Pardilla grapes in the blend that seem to have given it freshness and a kick in the palate, which is Mediterranean, with good freshness and a balanced mouthfeel. 67,000 bottles and 600 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2024.”
