An Alión at half the price?
Exactly, that’s what it comes down to…
Ausàs, because that’s the wine we’re talking about, was crafted by Xavier Ausàs, the oenologist who worked for many years at Vega Sicilia and was one of the founders of the Alión project.
You know, the Vega Sicilia wine created in a more modern style, with loads of black fruit and intense concentration.
He was in fact oenologist at the estate from 1988 to 2015. And 1991 was the very first vintage of Alión, released in 1995.
In 2016, Xavier made his first wine of his own, carrying his own name “Ausàs”. You have to be very confident for that. And rightly so.
We are of course big fans of Alión, but we couldn’t resist the Ausàs either.
Last week, the Ausàs 2022 arrived.
Our most powerful one so far. A truly great vintage!

The advantage is that with Ausàs you don’t yet pay for the Vega Sicilia name, but the pedigree is certainly there!
