New vintage of Ribera del Duero’s rising cult wine
Cote Luna 2020: Arrived last week!
Cote is now in his late forties, but has spent his entire life working with the region’s most iconic names. If your maternal grandfather happens to be Teófilo Reyes, there’s no doubt you’ll end up in wine! Cote started his career at Vega Sicilia, where he worked in viticulture among the vines.
He then spent over a decade as Peter Sisseck’s right-hand man at Pingus, joining him for more than 10 harvests. He also handled the winemaking at Hacienda Monasterio, where Peter Sisseck is the consultant. Cote worked for many years with Mariano Garcia as well — particularly with his sons in the Mauro project and the early days of Aalto.
So, for the past 20 years, he’s been involved with the best in the region! But of course, the call to create something of his own was too strong to ignore. Since the 2019 vintage, Cote has finally launched his own project. “Cote” is actually his nickname (his real name is Javier Garcia — and yes, there are many of those in Spain 😉), and it also became the name of this exciting new project.

We’ve just received his second vintage of Cote Luna: 2020
All from top-tier terroirs, with vines mostly on original rootstock — pre-phylloxera. From five different locations across Castilla-León: from Toro, through Burgos, to Cigales and Segovia.
All tiny vineyard plots, farmed biodynamically.
This Cote Luna is a unique blend of Aragonés, Petit Verdot and Garnacha — and it’s a bold wine.

Even the Burgundian barrels he uses,
the so-called “Lunessences”, are made from trees
felled in accordance with biodynamic principles.
His entire approach is one of pure precision and perfection.
And for us, perhaps most importantly,
Cote is simply a kind, honest and down-to-earth guy…
If you bought the 2019 last year, no explanation needed…
Be quick and get your hands on this Cote Luna 2020 from Ribera del Duero’s newest wonderboy.
