Without a doubt,
one of the absolute cornerstones of our catalogue:
the Roda Reserva.
In its early years, the wine was still called
Roda 2 (back then, we had Roda 1 and Roda 2). And although, on paper, it was the wine that was expected to age less well than RodaI, in practice, it has held up exceptionally well…
Last month, I was lucky enough to open a bottle of that older RodaII from my private cellar. From the fantastic 2001 vintage.
Wow, what a wine!
Blind tasted (I am not kidding) next to a
Mouton Rothschild 2001.
My dinner companions couldn’t decide! They were both equally exceptional. And that was the “small” Roda, not even the Roda 1!
I admit: 2001 was an absolutely top vintage in Rioja, and a more “normal” year in Bordeaux.
But it was still such a delight! 😊
Why this story?
Twenty years later, and this very week, the Roda Reserva 2021 hits the market.
Just like in 2001, 2021 is considered one of the best vintages in Rioja of the last 10 years.
Parker is ecstatic and highly complimentary of all our wines from this vintage.
“…and from what I’ve seen, it’s a wonderful vintage. It was a year that provided good conditions for those who worked well in the vineyards,…It’s going to be a vintage to follow over time.”
The wine is, of course, still very young, but it has
enormous potential! And all this at a still very reasonable price.
Are you a
fan of the Roda Reserva?
Then you shouldn’t hesitate;
this 2021 deserves a place in your cellar!
Enjoy it now and then, but be sure to keep a good number of bottles aside to enjoy over the next
15 to 20 years. You’ll thank me!
