Rioja and Toro come out on top
Tempranillo ranked twice as best-selling wine at our spring tasting
It’s no surprise that Tempranillo hit the jackpot twice.
This grape variety is a crowd-pleaser – from approachable entry-level wines to high-end cuvées.
The best-selling wine in terms of bottles was the entry-level wine from the small Elías Mora estate in Toro. A 100% pure Tinta de Toro (the local name for the Tempranillo clone in this region); always juicy, always seductive.

It brings us joy that a wine we’ve been importing for over 20 years still earns the
title of most sold bottle. It doesn’t always have to be something new!
The
Viñas Elías Mora is made from old Tinta de Toro vines, some even
pre-phylloxera. After a short élevage of
6 months in American oak barrels, we get a beautiful Tinta de Toro with soft, very drinkable tannins. In summer, it can even be enjoyed slightly chilled.
Its drinkability is one of the key reasons behind its ongoing success.
The other Tempranillo is nobility.
The last bottles of Macán 2019 were opened at our tasting. In just a month, the 2020 vintage will arrive. Naturally, the 2019 is even more expressive now than it was last year.

This is a great wine that requires time. With “wine relatives” like
Lafite Rothschild in Bordeaux and
Alión in Ribera del Duero, this is clearly no ordinary bottle.
One to lay down for the next 10 years.
This was the best-selling wine by revenue.
