Galicia, in Spain’s far northwest, isn’t exactly known for its top red wines. At Forjas del Salnés, Rodri mainly crafts top white wines with plenty of minerality and bright acidity.
Wines for the long run!
Leirana 2024,
O Pradiño 2021
Areas de Arra 2019
But apparently 2022 was the best year ever here for this small plot, “Finca Genoveva.”
This plot grows both white and red grapes—here, Caíño, a native variety of the region.

A tiny production of barely 2,000 bottles, of which (yay!) 120 made it to Belgium.
And luckily they arrived before the 98/100 Parker top score was awarded, because the estate is now completely sold out!
Here’s what he says about it:
98/100
“The nose of the 2022 Finca Genoveva Caíño is something else. This is paler and a lot more fragrant, floral, aromatic and elegant than any of the other Caíño bottlings (and I tasted it next to two others). It's a wine with an ethereal quality and fragile balance but full of energy and light. It's a symphony of dried flowers, herbs and spices, intoxicating and showy, with a fine-boned palate with pungent flavors and great purity, focus, definition and symmetry. It has to be one of the finest vintages for this superb red, one of the best in Galicia, if not the best. This also ages like heaven. It comes in at 12.6% alcohol and has 7.65 grams of acidity. 2,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in November 2024 after a long élevage, 12 months in a neutral 1,500-liter foudre and a further 12 months in 500-liter barrels.”
I admit, these aren’t wines for everyone! This is for connoisseurs! Atlantic in character, high in acidity, fine, elegant and pale in color. I opened a bottle this weekend and found it fabulous!
Would you like a few bottles of this top Atlantic Spanish red?
Still 114 bottles left (sorry, 6 for my cellar! 😉)…
