Butter and honey, finally the 3rd vintage of the top white wine from Joan d’Anguera
Barely two years ago: a white wine from the Anguera brothers… it was the last thing I expected from them. And yet, they came up with it during my visit in March 2023.
And what a wine! OMG…!!!
You know their red wines rank among the very best in Spain, especially since their shift to biodynamic winemaking, bringing them closer to the level and character of Château Rayas.
But I have to admit: when I tasted their white wine, I was instantly blown away! WOW!
100% Macabeu, with vines averaging 75 years old. Very limited production. Broad, opulent, gastronomic.
When I asked them why they made the wine this way, their answer was:

“Look Wim, we love white wines where you taste and smell butter and honey, so that’s exactly how we made ours.”
I couldn’t agree more. Nearly 10 months of ageing in new French oak gives this wine a strong gastronomic profile.
I would compare it most closely to a white Hermitage or a great Condrieu: ripe, opulent, structured, powerful. It just keeps going.
Truly one of our great white wines. A major surprise!
If you prefer fresh Atlantic-style whites, this is not for you. This is a powerful Mediterranean white with lower acidity. But everything is perfectly balanced. Lots of substance, lots of flavour, and above all, great length.
Simply top. And we can say that, because quite a few bottles have already been opened privately!

But as always: very limited,
with slightly more available this year 😉
“Here we go again…” you might think. “There’s barely any again… same story!”
Well, this time it’s relative: there are only two distributors worldwide allowed to purchase this wine: the local distributor in Spain and La Buena Vida.
Outside Belgium and Spain, you won’t find this wine anywhere. The good news: we have 136 bottles this year, so 16 more than last year!
If it had been divided among all distributors worldwide, we might have received just a couple of dozen bottles. So with these 136 bottles, we actually have — truly — a solid allocation.
But you will have to be quick 😉.
