José Gil 2024 is back!
Rioja’s most Burgundian wines score up to 99/100!
Three years ago, we were incredibly proud to add these wines to our Rioja range!
In just a few years, the young couple José Gil and Vicky Fernández were catapulted among the rising stars of Spanish wine. Virtually every Spanish winemaker I spoke to at the time tipped them as some of the most promising young winemakers in Rioja, and even in all of Spain.
In 2021, Tim Atkin named them “Young Winemakers of the Year”. Luis Gutiérrez at Robert Parker was equally enthusiastic from the very beginning.
And with the 2024 vintage, José Gil takes another big step forward. His two village wines receive 95/100, while his crus score from 96+ all the way up to 99/100. El Bardallo receives its highest score ever, while Camino de Ribas, with 99/100, comes incredibly close to a perfect score. It says a lot about how quickly this small estate is evolving.
These wines are almost impossible to find!
José Gil works with small plots and very low yields, while demand continues to grow worldwide. His production has to be divided among a large number of international importers. As a result, our Belgian allocation remains very limited.
But José Gil has now firmly established himself in Belgium alongside his idols,
Artuke and
Abel Mendoza, and both we and they are very happy about it.
Believe me, for me this is one of the most exciting estates in Rioja.
Tempranillo and Garnacha at the very highest level, with a distinctly Burgundian character.
We have just received the new 2024 vintage. As always, quantities are unfortunately very limited, so don’t wait too long!
