Old-vine Godello by Raúl Pérez
Raúl is, of course, best known for his top red wines: from his 100-point Viariz to the fantastic value-for-money entry-level red wine Saint Jacques. Raúl is a wine virtuoso on many levels. He knows Bierzo and Galicia like no other.

But when it comes to white wines, he is also one of Spain’s finest winemakers.
With this new 2024 La del Vivo, he proves it once again. La del Vivo is a white wine made mainly from the rich Godello grape, combined with a small amount of Doña Blanca. Ageing takes place in large wooden foudres.
The “La Vizcaína” project is an ambitious wine initiative, launched by Raúl Pérez himself, together with his nephew César Márquez Pérez. The latter is responsible for the vinification. And with his own wines, he also shows that he is a top student of Raúl: 97 and 98 all over the place for his wines.

In Bierzo, we naturally mainly find red wines based on Mencía, but here and there we also come across old-vine Godello.
This vineyard, “La del Vivo”, is a fine example. It is located in Valtuille de Abajo, on poor sandy and limestone soils.
This wine has it all: volume, terroir expression, freshness and that small touch of ageing in oak barrels that gives it its Burgundian character.
