Without a doubt one of our greatest cult wines from Priorat: it stands at the origin of the revival of this renowned wine region.
It was in their bodega that the 5 founding fathers (Carles Pastrana, René Barbier, Alvaro Palacios, José Luis Pérez, Daphne Glorian) of the “new Priorat” vinified their very first wine together, the 1989 vintage!
I had the chance this autumn to open another bottle of the 1989 and share it with good friends. No one realised the wine was already more than 35 years old!
We tasted it together with Ester Nin from the top estate Nin i Ortiz.
Ester is still today the oenologist of Clos Erasmus, also one of the 5 founding fathers.
And that first vintage was in fact the same wine with 5 different labels. A historic and very rare bottle…
It was still in fantastic shape, with plenty of life ahead.
And the quality of their wines has only improved since.
We are fortunate that the estate only releases its wines after 10 years (just like Vega Sicilia 😉).
So the 2016 is being released this year.
But we found the 2015 so good that we managed to secure a few last bottles in February.
