Is Godello really Spain’s best white grape variety?

In any case, it is the grape that has earned a top spot in record time in some of the finest wine cellars around the world. Over the past 15 years, Godello has become one of the great success stories of Spanish white wine.
And that is certainly no coincidence:

  1. Godello’s rise to fame was started by none other than Rafa Palacios, the youngest brother of Alvaro Palacios. Both are not only excellent winemakers, but also perfectionists and highly ambitious. When they start a project, their aim is clear: it has to become the best, or at least one of the best, in the region. They never settle for less…

  2. Godello is a remarkably versatile grape variety that can fully reflect both its terroir and the way it is vinified.
Do you want it lean and vertical? Absolutely!
Do you prefer it round and generous, with beautiful minerality? No problem!

  3. The vineyard is what matters most: plenty of work and low yields on a good terroir, based on granite or a mixture of sand, clay and granite.

  4. And once you have that fantastic vineyard, you still need the very best winemaker to make the most of it…
And…
The best white-wine maker in Spain is without a doubt Rafael Palacios: renowned for years for his top wine As Sortes (95+/100), and especially for Sorte o Soro (100/100) and Sorte Antiga (96+/100), which year after year earn awards and top scores among Spain’s finest white wines.

His “Louro”, however, is not far behind! It is a complex blend of Godello with a small proportion of Treixadura. All the vines grow on decomposed granite or on a mixture of granite and sand. Minerality at its best.

Rafa manages to make wines that are both Atlantic and mineral, yet also Burgundian in style and highly gastronomic. Quite an achievement for a Spanish white wine. The estate is fully organic, and most of the vineyards are also farmed biodynamically.

Louro 2024 had already sold out with us by August, but the 2025 has finally arrived! It is still young, but already very enjoyable to drink, and it can continue to develop for years.
For lovers of great white Burgundy at a modest price: this is your chance!

Please note: maximum 900 bottles available. And for the first time in a long while, we also have magnums available again!
