Tough one, isn’t it?
Our best high-end wine in terms of value...?
Well, for me it’s not that hard, to be honest. Because this isn’t just about price/quality – it’s about
price/charm.
We’re talking, of course, about the Maduresa by Pablo Calatayud of Celler del Roure, from inland Valencia. The man who earlier this year launched another top wine, named after two of his most loyal colleagues and partners in crime… (La Pebrella 2023)
Pablo, the man with the biggest heart in all of Valencia. He works incredibly hard in the vineyard, is still unsure of himself, asks for our opinion, and then – after years of work – releases the wine at a ridiculous price considering the craftsmanship and above all the quality of the wine.
Even Parker agrees:
“In general, the wines represent very good value, and their quality goes well beyond what the price points might suggest.”

Well, that same Pablo has just released his Maduresa 2022. A wine whose very first vintage (2001) we still remember fondly as absolutely delicious.
Low price and great ageing potential. Mediterranean, authentic, organic and made with love and lots of work – this is Valencia at its very best.
And luckily he’s being recognised for it, because
a brilliant 95/100 is no small feat!
It’s mostly
Monastrell with some
Carinyena and a touch of
Mandó (a grape he’s brought back into the spotlight!) and
Arcos (same story!).
According to the critics, this 2022 is the best vintage yet – and who am I to disagree with wise people 😉.
