Merseguera,
one of Spain’s most underrated white grape varieties, with incredible potential!
Some even call it
“Spain’s Condrieu.” And not without reason – Merseguera shares those floral notes, but
its standout trait is the freshness.
Toni Sarrión from Mustiguillo – the estate in question – cultivates his vineyards over 900 m above sea level in the inland part of Valencia. The terroir here is already much more continental than Mediterranean.
And that benefits the wine – this is a white with great ageing potential and a truly unbeatable price-to-quality ratio.
What Toni achieved with red Bobal, he has now done with Merseguera: reviving these two forgotten grapes and placing them back on the Spanish wine map. Both wines come entirely from organically farmed vineyards.

From this Merseguera, Toni produces two top white wines: his 1er cru is Finca Calvestra. Occasionally, he crafts a grand cru from a single parcel within Finca Calvestra: “Margas”. This wine is always bottle-aged for at least 3 years at the estate before release.
Both wines have just arrived. Finca Calvestra and Margas rank among our personal favourite white wines – especially when it comes to value!
Finca Calvestra has become the benchmark for top-tier Merseguera, while Margas gives the grape a sense of gravitas. Calvestra is also aged in acacia barrels, a rare choice nowadays, with which Toni honours the traditional winemaking methods of the region.

And even Robert Parker’s team was impressed, awarding top scores:
Finca Calvestra 2022: 93/100
Margas 2019: 94+/100
