Our most original white Priorat:
You probably know the red grape
Carignan, or
Carinyena in Catalan. A rather rustic variety. But with the right vineyard and a skilled winemaker, it often produces
top-quality wines (like
l’Hostal by
Joan d’Anguera &
Les Tosses by
Terroir al Límit…).
But did you know there’s also a white version of Carinyena?
In the past (and still today), it was a very rare variety found mostly in northern Catalunya.
Ester Nin brought it back into the spotlight — in Priorat.

From old vines she rediscovered in her vineyards, she propagated and replanted several hectares — helping reintroduce this forgotten variety into Priorat.
At first it was still illegal, as the grape wasn’t officially allowed. But since then, the D.O. has realized that winegrowers like Ester deserve to be celebrated.
So now, Carinyena blanca is officially recognized in the Priorat appellation.
And thank goodness for that!
This is a highly original white wine, intensely mineral and expressive.
Each year, we receive a small allocation of this rare white Priorat.
And since Ester Nin is
the highest-scoring winemaker in the whole Priorat region, this Carinyena blanca has also earned an excellent rating.

"The 2023 Planetes de Nin Carinyena Blanca saw a big change. They stopped the skin contact, and the profile of the wine has changed; it's a lot more expressive, open and floral, more serious too, more mineral and finer-boned. It matured 70% in barrels and 30% in concrete egg. It has a pungent palate with deep flavors and a chalky texture. And it has more ripeness, with 13.2% alcohol, which means more development of aromas and flavors in the wine, which they think is because it comes partly from a slope and before it was from flat vineyards. 6,350 bottles produced."
