The alignment of the planets according to Ester Nin!
Planetes Clàssic is without question the flagship wine of the Nin i Ortiz family.
This is a true family estate, with Ester as one of Spain’s finest oenologists, Carles as the tireless jack-of-all-trades, and their son Andreu as the young rising talent already producing his own sparkling wines at the estate: Astral 2023.

And it makes me wonder: could this Planetes 2023 be the best one ever?
I’ve tasted it several times this year already, including in a vertical tasting alongside other great vintages.
And I have to be honest: the best wine in that vertical tasting was without a doubt the 2018!
Wow, what a wine! Even though that 2018 “only” received 94/100 from Parker, this 2023 scored a stunning 95+/100, making it one of the highest-rated vintages ever.
This teaches us two things:
- Scores are relative…
- This wine only gets better with age.
Planetes is produced in the small village of Porrera, in the heart of the beautiful Priorat appellation. 4 hectares of Garnatxa, Garnatxa Peluda and Carinyena, farmed fully biodynamically from day one.
Only natural yeasts from the vineyard are used during vinification. Both fermentation and ageing take place in large 3200-litre foudres. There is therefore no oak influence at all; the wood is purely used for ageing the wine.
Finesse, elegance and minerality are therefore the key words behind this red Priorat. And all that at a price below 40 euros.
Surely there’s not much to think about here?
As its name suggests, this is a true “clàssic” and one that deserves a place in your cellar. Clear enough?
