This 100% old vine Mencía from Monterrei (South Galicia) is a very small production wine; it is quite different from the powerful and spicy wines made with this grape in El Bierzo.
Vinification
Part of the harvest is destemmed. Maceration and fermentation made partly in wooden vats, partly in stainless steel tanks. 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels (not new).
Storage potential
10 years.
To serve
Serve at 16°C in a large glass, after decanting.
Trial analysis
Nice bright red colour, lighter than most Mencias. Very expressive aromas of red fruit and pepper; relatively thin on the palate, its structure is held by acidity. Atlantic in character, this is a well-balanced wine.
