The new 2020 has arrived!
The most seductive Roda I ever?
It just might be: our very first vintage of Roda I was 1992 (also the very first vintage of the estate). In 1993 no Roda I was produced, and already in 1994 we had one of the greatest vintages ever made.
We are now more than 30 vintages later. The 2023 is currently ageing in the cellar.

And this 2020 finally arrived last week and is, for me, one of the most seductive ever produced.
Possibly on the level of 2004. Meanwhile, the vines are twenty years older, the winemaking has only improved, and all of this comes together in a perfectly ripe and powerful year like 2020.
We had already tasted the 2020 “en primeur” in October last year, and it was immediately clear: this is the perfect combination of power, concentration, ripeness and velvety seduction.
A truly great wine. Already beautiful to drink in its fifth year, with plenty of ageing potential ahead.
And the specialised wine press agrees:
James Suckling: “Such a delicious Reserva!” and awards it a strong 95/100!
Even Parker, who normally does not favour the fuller, more structured style of Roda I, gives it an excellent 94/100!
And in the Spanish press it receives 95/100 (Peñín) and 98/100 (Proensa).
James Suckling 95/100
"Such a delicious reserva that has huge depth of fruit, dark minerals and cocoa powder. Full-bodied and powdery on the palate, with stacks of glossy black fruit. Juicy and really long. Modern, for sure, with lots of fruit and youthful color. You can call it Roda's neoclassical style."
R. Parker 94/100
"The flagship 2020 Roda I has a nose of black fruit and spices with hints of licorice and aromatic herbs, with depth and complexity, still very young and undeveloped. It's mostly Tempranillo and 8% Graciano fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels, half of them new, for 16 months. It reveals a powerful nose with good ripeness, reaching 14.5% alcohol but keeping its poise with a good pH and acidity, coming through as medium to full-bodied with juicy berry fruit and abundant, slightly dusty tannins."
Guía Proensa: 98/100
Guía Peñín: 95/100
