Spectacular at this price!
Last week, R. Parker published the scores for the 2024 vintage in Bierzo.
2024 was certainly not an easy year, with many producers harvesting only half as much as in 2023, which had been an outstanding year in both quality and quantity.
But, surprise surprise: some of our wines have achieved even higher scores in 2024 than in 2023. We'll naturally keep you informed as soon as they arrive, especially since we have another perfect 100/100 score to celebrate…
But I've kept you in suspense long enough. Of the red wines from Bierzo, we've only received one from the 2024 vintage so far:

(hooray, it's even on special offer!), which has just received its highest score ever.
But today, I'd like to talk about another wine, from an even bigger name:
Raúl Pérez himself.
His entry-level wine is
Ultreia Saint Jacques, named after the Camino de Santiago, which passes through his village of Valtuille de Abajo/Villafranca del Bierzo. The vineyards used to produce this wine are also located along the Camino de Santiago.
Most of the vines are old.
And now this Ultreia Saint Jacques is back in stock, in the fantastic 2023 vintage.

What's more, it's a real crowd-pleaser and an excellent match for a wide range of autumn dishes.
R. Parker also awarded the 2023 its highest score ever: 93+/100

"The 2023 Ultreia Saint Jacques has a lifted nose. In the rainy 2023, they selected from the many plots in different lieux-dits of Valtuille, which this year included El Val and El Cepón in Villafranca, mostly from very old vines, with 50% of the grapes purchased from growers. It fermented mostly with full clusters and had a long maceration and matured in used barrels. It has contained ripeness and less than 13% alcohol. All the 2023 reds from the Ultreia range are very clean."
