R. Parker (92+/100)
The single-vineyard 2023 Camino de La Peña was produced with Listán Blanco grapes from a plot in the zone known as La Peña in Altos de Icod in the Icod Valley in the northeast of Tenerife on young basalt soils. The vines are pruned in the traditional parral, or pergola, way. The juice from the pressing of the grapes with part of the stems was let to settle and fermented with indigenous yeasts in amphorae, where the wine matured with lees that were not stirred for nine months. Despite 2023 being a warm and dry year, the wine has lower alcohol than the 2022s, 12% in this case, and has more freshness, denoted by a pH of 3.2. It's pale and has medium intensity, with a light palate, velvety and balanced, and a dry, chalky finish. 1,089 bottles were filled in July 2024.
