James Suckling (97/100)
Very perfumed, this has red fruit with a nervy herbal touch, enveloped in floral character. The medium-bodied palate has a tight, ethereal sense and a delicate finish. From a high-altitude vineyard surrounded by pine trees, a cooler site that yields more angular yet subtle wines.

The 2021 El Cerro de Valdecañada is much paler than the Valdecañada; it's lighter, more ethereal and more floral. This comes from north-facing vines, ancient ones but with a very long maceration. It had a longer élevage, almost two years, and the wine develops a layer of flor on the surface. The wine has more weight. There are only two barriques of this, some 600 bottles.
