Envínate’s least known (and cheapest!) wine:

Have you already bought wines from Envínate from Tenerife and Galicia?

Have you heard of their project in Almansa? Yet another completely different region. Located around the city of Albacete in the south-east of Spain. A region dominated by cooperatives and bulk wine producers. Truly qualitative projects here are extremely rare.

We have nevertheless been importing Albahra for a very long time, and it was even the first wine we ever purchased from Envínate. Each year, however, we only received one small pallet, despite its fantastic price-quality ratio. As a result, most of it usually went straight to the sommeliers.
From the 2023 vintage, and now also in 2024, we have slightly more bottles in stock, which means we can finally offer the wine to the wider public!

The grape varieties in this region are very typical: Tintorera or Alicante Bouschet as the main component, complemented by the rare Moravia Agria – a grape variety found only in this region. In 2024, a small amount of Garnacha was also added.

Planted at more than 800 metres altitude on limestone soils.

A difficult grape to work with due to its firm tannins, but one that the Envínate team has mastered perfectly after ten years of experience.

It gives the wine its spicy notes, alongside the voluptuous fruit of Tintorera. The result retains plenty of freshness and a beautiful finish.

The perfect wine for the coming spring!

R.Parker agrees:
94/100

"The red 2024 Albahra is the only wine I tasted this time, as the white was not produced. This is a blend of Garnacha Tintorera, Moravia Agria and Garnacha Tinta with a contained 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.42 and 5.8 grams of acidity. The varieties fermented separately with variable amounts of full clusters, and the wine matured in concrete, barrels and foudres. It has a harmonious and subtle nose with notes of flowers, herbs and berries with a spicy and earthy twist. The year was saved by some summer rains that allowed the grapes to complete the cycle. The harvest started 10 days earlier than normal, and they got lower yields. This is serious and balanced, following the nicely crafted style from the Envínate team, showcasing its birthplace. It's eminently Mediterranean with freshness and balance. This is a bargain for the quality it delivers."

Description

Envínate works in several regions across Spain. The common thread in their wines is elegance and an Atlantic character. This Albahra (“small lake”), however, is their Mediterranean wine, while still remaining light-footed and elegant in style. It is made mainly from Tintorera, sourced from a small 3-hectare vineyard in Almansa planted on clay-limestone soils. The blend is complemented by Moravia Agria, a grape variety of which only about 50 hectares remain planted across the whole of Spain. This grape is known for its high acidity and relatively light colour. The vineyard is located in Manchuela on clay-limestone soils with a sandy top layer. In 2024, a small amount of Garnacha was also added.
