Grenache was widely planted in South Africa at the beginning of the 20th century and has been making a clear comeback in recent years. Young vines often produce high yields, which can have a negative impact on quality. When the vines reach maturity or are planted on more demanding sites with lower yields, Grenache can produce wines with great finesse and elegance, comparable to the finest examples from Mediterranean climates.
