The little brother of the cult wine Calogía:
“Doble M”
“Doble M” is the name of the wine made by José Manuel Pérez Ovejas of Dominio de Calogía. The 2021 was the very first vintage and, unfortunately, it sold out very quickly last year. We had already been waiting six months for the new 2022 vintage.
Calogía is of course no unfamiliar name to our loyal wine lovers. You know it from the
Dominio de Calogía (the final bottles of the 2021 vintage are still available), as well as from their top cuvée,
Calogía cuvée “S” (now sold out, although a few magnums and one large 18-litre bottle are still available…)
Since last year, however, this small boutique winery has also produced “Doble M”, named after his two children, Manuela and Mauro.
The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo, grown in a small north-facing vineyard at an altitude of 845 metres.
Only 15,000 bottles of this 2022 vintage were produced. 360 of them were allocated to Belgium!
I visited the estate in January and tasted it there. It was absolutely excellent!
We were extremely impressed by this 2022 vintage.
The two other Calogía wines are of course excellent, but they also come at premium prices…
This “Doble M” offers a truly fantastic price-quality ratio!
José Manuel has also bottled a limited number of “double magnums” — you see what he did there… These will arrive later, but you can already reserve them now.

This 2022 vintage has not yet been reviewed by R. Parker, but I am certain he will be a big fan. The wine is extremely balanced and harmonious, with plenty of complexity. To us, it even has a touch of Vega Sicilia character…
For me, this is clearly a great wine that already offers plenty of drinking pleasure, while also being extremely well suited to ageing.
