José Manuel Pérez Ovejas is the scion of a very long line of winemakers. He has wine in his genes.
Even as a child, he already knew he would make wine, so he took advantage of all these years to accumulate knowlege and prepare to become a good winemaker. His training was not only academic, as he benefited from the example of his father Benjamin, a great winemaker who largely contributed in the founding of the Ribera del Duero appellation.
After more than 30 vintages, José Manuel uses his experience, his intuition and the strict limits he puts on the production yields to make top wines. A real perfectionist, he is never quite satisfied with himself.
But his efforts were recognised. First in 2017, when he was awarded the prize of Spanish Winemaker of the Year, and 2018, when he was named Spain's Best Winemaker.
Yet he does not rest on his laurels. Being as enthusiastic and passionate as he is, he is still full of new projects.
