Enric Soler is not the most well-known name in our range. And there’s a logical reason for that: in a normal year, we receive only a very small allocation from this winery.
These bottles are mainly distributed among Belgium’s top fine dining restaurants. Until 2020, this meant that we sold NUN only by reservation and had no bottles in stock outside of these restaurant allocations.
For the past ten years, we have also received small quantities of his other Grand Cru
“Espenyalluchs”. And since Wednesday’s mailing, you now know that his so-called “small” wine, Improvisació,
is actually a great white wine in the making…
The wines of Enric Soler are among the highest-rated white wines in Spain, alongside those of Rafael Palacios in Valdeorras.
These are true age-worthy white wines (we’ve tasted them!),
that can easily hold their own against the great white Burgundies.
Moreover, Enric works fully biodynamically. This gives the wines a gastronomic character, with elegant minerality and significant aging potential.
The 2023 vintage arrived last week!
For a few years now, he has also been producing two other top crus in addition to NUN. Espenyalluchs is, like NUN, a 100% Xarel.lo cru, located on a rocky hillside of just under a hectare.
The vines are younger than those of NUN, but the style is completely in the same direction.
And of course, there’s also “Improvisació”, which is also made from several adjacent plots of Xarel.lo and vinified in Stockinger foudres and concrete eggs.
For the second time, there is also a new wine based on Malvasía de Sitges and Xarel.lo, called Istiu.
Last year, this wine couldn’t be made due to a lack of yield from this vineyard. This year, it is extremely limited in availability.
I tasted them all with Enric at the winery two weeks ago and can confirm that 2023 is truly an outstanding vintage! Perfect balance, refined power, and acidity in superb harmony.
