José Luis Mateo has a passion for the small, often inaccessible plots of vines on the hills around Monterrei, in Galicia. At the turn of the 2000's, he collaborated with Raul Pérez to make the A Trabe cuvée. Now he uses the same vines to make the Viticultura de Montaña range, sometimes blended with other grapes. Fisterra is his youngest vine its wines show a a lot of personality -both refined and very Atlantic.
Vinification
White and red grapes are harvested together, this is a real complantation wine. The grapes are foot-trodden in open tanks, the follows a long maceration (3 to 4 months) and fermentation (6 months), with a as little intervention as possible. Half of the grapes are not de-stemmed. only natural yeasts are used.
Then the wine stays one more year in stainless steel and some 2 more years in bottles before being released on the market.
