I tasted again the 2017 Ulterior - Parcela 10 Tinta Velasco, which was produced to showcase the unknown local variety that seems to have roots in the zone. Tinta Velasco is planted on their El Romeral estate, where they grow the grapes for this Ulterior range. It fermented with 25% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, and 50% of the volume matured in a large clay tinaja while the other half was in used barriques for 10 months. It has a very personal nose with lots of aromatic herbs and some ripe berries and a medium-bodied palate with chalky, fine-grained tannins and tasty flavors of bramble berries. Lovely rusticity.
