The wildest of the three new whites from the north of Tenerife from 2022 was the 2022 Maipé de Taganana. It's from the new single-vineyard category from the Tenerife DOP Islas Canarias appellation, produced with grapes, mostly Listán Blanco, from the zone of Taganana in the northeast corner of the island on very rocky soils. The wine has moderate ripeness and alcohol (12%), vibrant acidity and freshness and is toasty, smoky and leesy. This fermented in concrete and matured in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels for five months, which might be responsible for some of those notes. The palate has pungent flavors, but it's very balanced and harmonious, with all the components nicely integrated and in harmony with the others.
