Mustiguillo – Finca Calvestra 2022 – D.O. Terrerazo
Which one, you ask? Indeed, for many this was an unknown wine. But our regular customers know very well that Toni Sarrión (former winemaker of the year!) is a true benchmark and the pioneer of the red Bobal grape and the white Merseguera.

This Finca Calvestra was truly the surprise of the tasting! Mineral, complex, beautifully ripe, long on the palate, and made from a very original grape variety. Old vines at over 900 metres altitude. Perfect for the festive table.

That was obvious from the start. The new generation of Rioja present at the tasting were also the trusted names everyone knows.
Noblesse oblige: the Vega Sicilia and B. de Rothschild families delivered an outstanding wine with their Macán Clásico 2021.

Without doubt the best so far. Many customers already felt this, as the 2021 has been very popular in recent months.

But a tasting shows what matters: wines tasted side by side. Different price levels and vintages next to each other. And the best always stands out.
This time, two Riojas were neck and neck, with a slight lead for Macán Clásico 2021!

To my great satisfaction: the new 2017 Reserva from Remírez de Ganuza!

2017 was a powerful year. I also had high expectations after the quality of 2016 – for me still the best Remírez ever.
But the 2017 easily holds its ground. It’s truly impressive. And compared with the great wines of the world: not expensive at all (yes, it really is like that).

Both wines also have outstanding ageing potential!
