Vitícola Mentridana is the successor to Dani Landi Viticultor. Dani, born in Méntrida, followed a similar path as his childhood friend Curro. Both studied oenology and began their careers working in small family-run bodegas. Eventually, they each created their own projects—Comando G for Dani and Fedellos for Curro. Now, their paths have crossed again: Dani decided to bring all his vineyards from the Méntrida appellation under one separate winery, Vitícola Mentridana. Curro now runs the day-to-day operations and makes the wines, always with Dani’s support.

History Vitícola Mentridana

The vineyards in Méntrida formerly belonged to Dani Landi and were separate from Comando G. In 2021, Dani decided—together with Curro—to establish Vitícola Mentridana, so that this project would finally receive the attention it deserves. After all, this is the southern side of the Sierra de Gredos, with a distinct climate and terroir.

Varieties Vitícola Mentridana

Garnacha! Mainly old vines.

Terroir Vitícola Mentridana

Of granitic origin, but often very sandy. Located between 200 and 400 metres in altitude, with some small plots reaching up to 800 metres. Low in limestone and naturally high in acidity. A terroir that predates the Sierra de Gredos itself.

Vinification Vitícola Mentridana

A non-interventionist approach. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Vinification is done partially or entirely with whole bunches. The subtlety and elegance of Garnacha are always at the forefront. Ageing takes place in large wooden foudres or tinajas. No new oak barrels are used.

Description

Daniel Landi is one of the most talked-about young winemakers in Spain. He has set Sierra de Gredos back on the wine map of Spain. This Uvas de la Ira blend (Spanish for Grapes of Wrath, like the John Steinbeck novel) is his entry level wine. But what an entry level wine! It is made with old grenaches from different part of the Sierra, mainly on slate (pizarra).
