His estate has the status of a D.O. in itself, which has been possible since 2003, when the D.O. Vinos de Pago was created – the new classification can be given to particularly remarkable estates after some years of producing quality wines.
In fact, his estate lies within the boundaries of the D.O. Utiel-Requena, but as most of the wines there are mass products, it does not have a lot of significance.
So when Toni started his project, he deliberately chose not to put his wines under the rather soiled flag of this D.O.
However, this area has a huge potential. The vineyards are mainly on highlands (around 800 m above sea level) under continental rather than Mediterranean influences.
Mustiguillo lies in the hinterland of Valencia and the main grape it uses is Bobal. DOP El Terrerazo is a certified organic estate wine, made from vineyards cultivated through natural methods and rigorous practices. Only grapes from the estate’s own vineyards are used.
