Another great wine from Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo. Las Lamas is one of the estate’s Grand Crus, from a superb vineyard on a steep slate slope. Barely 1.6 hectares of old Mencía vines, complemented by a small amount of Palomino and Tintorera.
Las Lamas is usually the more structured of the crus, but in fine vintages it retains that typical Atlantic touch, with plenty of finesse. Very limited availability!
Vinification
Ricardo is one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Spain. All the Grand Cru vineyards are farmed according to these principles. These are difficult to access vineyards that can only be worked with mules.
For the vinification, the grapes are partially destemmed, after which maceration and fermentation start naturally and usually last between 40 and 70 days. The wine is then aged in large wooden foudres and barriques.
The aim here is not extraction, but rather minerality and finesse.

Trial analysis
Bright, clear red in the glass. The nose is restrained, with aromas of green herbs and violets, together with a slight reductive note and some pepper in the background. With swirling, the pepper and the Northern Rhône character become more pronounced.
On the palate, it is highly complex and broad, with an elegant expression of terroir and impressive length. Fine and precise, with occasional nuances of leather and blood.
A perfect match for game dishes!
