The 2021 Improvisació was produced with Xarel.lo grapes from three vineyards ranging from 40 to 60 years of age that total 1.2 hectares on limestone and sandy soils. Enric told me there was some rain before the harvest and one of the vineyards developed some noble rot—Botrytis cinerea—and that might have contributed to a faint note and texture. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in Stockinger vats and concrete eggs, where the wine matured for eight months. It some smoky/peaty notes, hints of translucent red berries and a stunning palate, with great balance. It has to be one of the finest vintages for this blend. It's very complex, perhaps the highlight of the vintage. 5,050 bottles produced.
