The new kid on the block is the pale and delicate red 2021 Maçanella, produced with Garnacha (Tinta and Peluda) from a massal selection from their oldest vines planted in a plot of slate soils 20 years ago. The clusters were selected by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts with a 30-day maceration. It matured in lightly toasted French oak barrels for 14 months. It's floral, perfumed and elegant, very different from the other reds produced from the property; it has a lighter profile and is more ethereal despite the 14% alcohol, with a medium-bodied palate, really fine-boned and with elegant tannins. Only 568 bottles were filled in the winter of 2023, as they discarded one of the three barrels produced in this first year. Superb!
