I prefer the bouquet on the 2006 Nunci Costero, a blend of 50% Carinena, 35% Garnacha and, to be frank, otiose Bordeaux varieties. The vines are between 80 to 100 years. It has a well- defined, subtle, almost understated bouquet of ripe red berries, cassis and undergrowth with well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry. It is spicy and lively with a touch of cough candy towards the fleshy finish that belies that tannic backbone. This is a fine Priorat red, but one that I feel would achieve great focus without the Bordeaux varieties. Drink 2013-2020.
