As Penas is the white single-vineyard wine from Adega A Barouta in Ribeiro. It comes from an old vineyard in the Val do Avia, planted on granite soils. The mixed planting is dominated by Treixadura, complemented by Albariño, Caíño Blanco, Loureiro, Agudelo and other local varieties.
Treixadura forms the backbone of the wine, while Albariño brings extra acidity and energy. A white Ribeiro with plenty of tension, minerality and a clearly Atlantic character. It is also made to develop well in bottle.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and the whole bunches are pressed. The different varieties are co-fermented with native yeasts in wooden barrels. The wine is then aged for around 16 months in 500-litre barrels. Bottled without filtration or stabilisation.

Trial analysis
Complex nose with ripe white fruit, herbs, chamomile and dried flowers. Light oxidative touch. The palate is velvety yet taut, with fine acidity and plenty of energy through the mid-palate. Saline and sapid, with a long, dry finish and pronounced granite-like minerality.
