The Gran Reserva is only vinified in the best vintages. It is made from a selection of old vineyards (up to 830 metres altitude) with vines averaging 60 years of age. In years when the quality required for a Gran Reserva is not achieved, the grapes are used for the Reserva. This was the case for the 2017 vintage.
Vinification
24 months of ageing primarily in French oak barrels, with limited use of American oak, followed by a minimum of 36 months of bottle ageing.
Storage potential
Drink as from : 2028
Best moment : 2035-2039
Until : 2050
To serve
Decant within its first 8 years. Serve at a temperature of 18 °C in a large glass. Even after decanting, the wine still needs time to fully open up.
Trial analysis
This wine needs air to open up. Then it shows a lot of freshness on the nose - red and sour cherries, plum, and sweet spices, which linger on the palate, complex, deep and fleshy. A subtle acidity and a touch of wood give it a good persistence and some minerality too.
