Las Lamas 2022

Wine lovers and customers often ask me what my favourite wine or grape variety is. My answer is always the same: it depends on the moment and my mood.

But I also have to admit that Mencía is definitely in my top 3!

Canto Platero 2024

Since 2024, Dani Landi and Curro Barreño have once again been producing a top single-vineyard wine from the vineyard formerly known as “The End” or “Fin del Mundo”. It is now called “Canto Platero”, a reference to the many quartz stones scattered across the vineyard’s soils.

And this Canto Platero 2024 is a wonderfully refined and elegant Garnacha!

Dominio de Calogia Doble M 2022

The little brother of the cult wine Calogía:

“Doble M” is the wine made by José Manuel Pérez Ovejas of Dominio de Calogía. The 2021 was the very first vintage and, unfortunately, it sold out very quickly last year. We had already been waiting six months for the new 2022 vintage.

Alegre Valganon Blanco 4 año 2022

Then you will also love the white wines of Oscar Alegre and Eva Valgañón…They produce one white wine that is released only once every four years. It is therefore fittingly called “Blanco 4° año”.

We have just received a new red from Verónica Ortega, limited as always: only 90 bottles of Cobrana, A Bruxa 2023.

Cáreo 2024

Cáreo 2023 sold out immediately.

But for those who were too late, and there were quite a few of you… sorry, I have good news: the 2024 has just arrived. There are only 90 bottles available, so once again, quantities are very limited.

You do have one major advantage: this vintage has not been scored yet. So, if you trust me, do not wait for the score. Just take my word for it: Cáreo 2024 is at least on the same level, and perhaps even more elegant.

Victoria Rosado 2025

Our best rosé for summer: Victoria Rosado 2025.

The wine is a tribute from son and daughter Ignacio and Martina to their mother, Victoria Pariente. It is a blend of old-vine Garnacha and Tempranillo, complemented with Viognier.

Benje Tinto 2024

95/100 for the best and freshest red wine of this summer!

Deliciously fresh, elegant and refined, with above all that striking volcanic mineral character. And the bottle we tasted was still the 2023, from a warm vintage.

But we now have the 2024, which is, in our view, the best ever: even more refined, with beautiful acidity, plenty of freshness and very fine tannins. A brilliant glass for a warm summer!

Trascuevas 2023

A Chablis-like white wine from our favourite family estate in Rioja: Artuke “Trascuevas”.

Made exclusively from old vines planted on limestone soils. The vineyards are naturally farmed organically, the grapes are hand-harvested and only native yeasts from the vineyard are used.

A rebel from Penedès who makes a wine with Riesling vibes from a fantastic forgotten grape! What a story!

So what did I do? I bought the last 240 bottles of this Jané Ventura Malvasía de Sitges 2021.

This is a fantastic wine at a very reasonable price, especially considering the tiny quantities produced. It is genuinely top class, with plenty of ageing potential as an added bonus!

Coma d'en Romeu 2023

My personal absolute favourite from Priorat!

Once again, for the third time this week, a tribute to the Nin Ortiz family from Priorat. And this tribute is more than deserved. We have been working together for over 20 years and distributing their wines in Belgium.

Pure, mineral and full-bodied Garnatxa with a fantastic finish, great length and complexity.

A wine that is already delicious today, believe me, but will also age beautifully.

Planetes Clàssic 2023

Planetes Clàssic is without question the flagship wine of the Nin i Ortiz family.

Finesse, elegance and minerality are the key words behind this red Priorat. And all that at a price below 40 euros.

Honestly, there’s not much to think about here.

As its name suggests, this is a true “clàssic” and one that deserves a place in your cellar.

Terra Vermella 2023

In times of expensive diesel, this might just be the solution…?

We’re talking about Terra Vermella, one of my all time favourites in our range. I’ve already explained why a few times: the Terra Vermella vineyard is right next to the Selma vineyard.

Not only because both wines are complex, slightly offbeat and beautiful with age and evolution, but also because I have a direct view over these vineyards from my small masia Can Xiretas in El Pla de Manlleu.

Mandolás 2023

Mandolás 2023: Have you never tasted or bought it before?

Don’t hesitate. This is one you really should try! Not only because of the reputation of Vega Sicilia, but because it simply doesn’t need that reputation to stand out. This wine is a top-class white in its own right and without a doubt one of the best white wines in our range.

Élixir 2024

Élixir is a dry wine, made according to the same principles as Lumière, but based on Moscatel grown on the sandy soils around Chipiona.

Thanks to the nearby sea, this Élixir retains its saline character, beautifully combined with the exotic, fruity and creamy side of the Moscatel.

Could there be a better name for a wine born from this pale, brilliantly white terroir? “The Light”. Here, you can literally see it…

The old Palomino vines are now over 60 years old and are planted in the renowned Miraflores Baja vineyard (La Platera).

Embruix, finally back!

Albert Costa from Vall Llach was present at our tasting this weekend.

And we were glad to see him!

As you may know (or not), the estate was hit by a snowstorm in 2021, causing the roof of the vinification cellar to collapse.

As a result, part of the 2021 harvest was lost, and there were not enough technical resources available to produce sufficient quantities in 2022.

But in 2023, it’s back!

And we had all been waiting for it: the return of Embruix, the “baby” of Vall Llach.

Quite simply their best value for money.

Barely two years earlier: a white wine from the Anguera brothers… it was the last thing I expected from them. And yet, they came up with it during my visit in March 2023.

And what a wine! OMG…!!!

Ultreia Villegas 2023

“Villegas”, the finest cru of Bierzo?

You know it, we are big fans of our “wine gnome” from Bierzo.

Raúl has it all: knowledge, passion, charm, and above all a no-nonsense attitude that makes him widely appreciated and a great partner to work with.

Luis Gutiérrez for R. Parker clearly agrees, awarding this Villegas Cru 2023 an impressive 97/100.

Finca de Los Locos 2023

The craziest cru in Rioja…

Artuke, “Finca de los Locos”.

The de Miguel family attracted attention from the very beginning in this classic wine region. They are now considered among the great innovators of Rioja, and often described as the most Burgundian winemakers of the appellation.

They continue their father’s legacy with this remarkable cru: “Finca de los Locos”.

Paso Las Mañas 2023

Pazo Las Mañas is one of the two “premier crus” where Arturo has fully shaped the vineyard according to his own vision.

He planted it himself on a slope called “Paraje El Chorro”, when he was still very young, in 1990 and 1999, with a final section planted in 2013. In total, almost 4 hectares.

The 2017 vintage was therefore the very first release of this outstanding wine.

Albahra 2024

We have been importing Albahra for a very long time, and it was even the first wine we ever purchased from Envínate. Each year, however, we only received one small pallet, despite its fantastic price-quality ratio. As a result, most of it usually went straight to the sommeliers.

Enric Soler Grand Crus 2024

“Superb wines. One of the best white-wine-only projects in Spain, with Rafael Palacios”. Those are the exact words of R. Parker!

Enric Soler is still a relatively unknown name in our range. There is a simple explanation for that: in a normal year, we only receive a very limited number of bottles from this winery.

Abel Mendoza Topcrus 2022

Abel Mendoza’s top crus, the renowned “Grano a Grano” wines, had already been sold out with us since the summer; it was therefore high time the new vintages finally arrived.

They have not yet been scored, but believe me: they are every bit as good as the previous vintages.

And there is also a surprise! A new top wine called “52-60”, from a parcel in Labastida.

They have not forgotten their roots either. Abel started out as a young cosechero, meaning a producer of youthful semi-carbonic maceration wines. Deliciously drinkable reds bursting with fruit, in the style of the better terroir-driven Beaujolais.

And all of that at a very modest price.

Mentidero "Blablabla-Pack"

Blablabla… And yet, not a wine for empty talk.

If you want to taste both the salinity of the nearby Ocean and the minerality of the volcanic soils, these wines hit the mark.

The first time we tasted them, we were truly impressed. What complexity, what authenticity. This is exactly the kind of wine we do it all for.

I told you so!

Last year, I tasted the 2023 line-up even before the wines were reviewed and scored by Luis Gutiérrez for R. Parker. And I knew it!

I had already told you during our Comando G primeur release in April: Tumba del Rey Moro was going to be the next 100/100 after Rumbo al Norte!

As Sortes 2024

As Sortes 2024, finally back in stock!

Spain’s leading white wine producer, Rafael Palacios, has been renowned for years for his top cuvées Sorte o Soro (98+/100) and Sorte Antiga (97+/100), which consistently earn awards and outstanding scores as some of the finest white wines in Spain.

As Sortes 2024 (not yet rated) is equally impressive, but especially appealing to lovers of terroir and minerality.

According to Rafa, this is his most mineral and saline vintage to date. He even describes 2024 as “the most radical vintage.”

For me personally, these are my favourites, because they are always the most balanced and the most long lived. These are wines that can age without any problem for 20 years or more.

Within 10 to 20 years, people will speak about these regions in the same way they do today about Richebourg, Grands Échezeaux and Le Chambertin.

2023 represents the pinnacle of elegance for Álvaro Palacios’ Grand Crus in Bierzo:

97+/100, 98/100, 99/100 and 100/100!!

La Faraona was awarded the perfect score of 100/100, but did you know that this iconic wine is joined by three outstanding Grand Crus, available at roughly one tenth of the price…!!??

Pétalos 2023

According to Wine Spectator, the best wine in the world for value for money.

We have just received the Pétalos 2023.

Another tour de force by Álvaro Palacios and Ricardo Palacios in Bierzo.

Pétalos is the entry wine of the estate, made mainly from Mencía.

A red wine without pretence, yet full of depth and flavour.

Alión 2022

This is the essence of Ribera del Duero. A top-level Tempranillo that can age and evolve beautifully for 15 years or more without any issue.

The vineyards of Alión are located at an average altitude of 750 m, with very low yields of just 26.6 hl/ha and an average vine age of 42 years.

Vega Sicilia, the true icon of Ribera del Duero, combines decades of tradition with outstanding quality.

2025 was an outstanding year for us.

Many wines, from entry level to top cuvées, received excellent scores. And we even have more top scorers than last year.

No fewer than four wines achieved a perfect score.

Peña Lobera 2021

You are guaranteed not to know this one: Peña Lobera 2021 (97/100).

Let your Alións and Valbuenas rest in your cellar for a while, because this wine is already drinking beautifully today.

It naturally still has great ageing potential, but its finesse and freshness make it highly enjoyable even at a young stage.

A beautiful Christmas story…

Forty years ago, Glòria planted a vineyard using cuttings from old Garnatxa vines from Darmós.

Glòria worked as a grape picker at the estate of Joan d’Anguera in Montsant.

She was originally from Murcia, a woman with strong personality and character…

The best Garnatxa Peluda in the world?

To begin with: “What is Garnatxa Peluda?”, many readers may wonder.

It is a natural mutation of the classic Garnatxa grape and is also very easy to recognise. The leaves have fine hairs on their underside, meaning they are literally “hairy”.

This characteristic helps the vine better withstand heat and drought.

Like many young Spanish producers inspired by Burgundy, they name their wines after individual vineyards and lieux-dits. Their motto: “In grape we trust.”

We’ve just received Artuke’s new 2023 vintages, and here too, 2023 shows perfect balance with more freshness than the warm and full-bodied 2022.

This white Rioja is a blend from three tiny vineyard plots, together covering only 0.8 ha. It combines four different grape varieties, but the yields vary greatly from year to year. The only way to produce a reasonable quantity is by blending several vintages. This approach creates a true “house-style” white flagship wine, where both varietal diversity and terroir define the final blend.

In this case, those were the wines from Bàrbara Mesquida in Mallorca. And that is nothing short of unfair. The wines she presented were true models of finesse, but their elegance made them stand out less among the more powerful Tempranillos.

Since 2012, the four friends of Envínate have been crafting outstanding wines here. Each year, we only receive a small allocation. Their cuvées have meanwhile become highly sought after by connoisseurs.

They work in a completely non-interventionist way, resulting in a natural expression of the volcanic soils. Every vintage also receives top scores from Luis Gutiérrez for R. Parker. What they create is truly unique – and still very affordable.

Last week, the wines of The Sadie Family arrived at our warehouse – and you’re in luck. Due to the challenging commercial climate in many other countries, we were offered (and accepted) a record allocation for Belgium this year 😊!

Over the past week I’ve already opened a few bottles, and that only makes me even happier with this decision.

Most of our customers bought en primeur and therefore didn’t have the chance to taste. This year, we still have availability on most of the wines – a real luxury when it comes to Sadie’s wines.

But be careful: some cuvées only have about 30 bottles left, others around 60.

So large quantities are not possible. Maximum 6 bottles per wine per customer!

But he is best known for his whites: as Parker puts it, “the Whites are always superb”.

Well then, among those “superb” whites, I’ve got an even rarer variant:

Our most mysterious winemaker…

His estate lies in Monterrei, a small appellation in the south of Galicia, just above Portugal. Barely 700 hectares of vineyards in the entire appellation.

It is also one of the smallest estates in our portfolio.

Who are we talking about? Quinta da Muradella by José Luis Mateo. In Monterrei, he stands head and shoulders above the rest.

And since this spring, we’ve received about 90 bottles of this nectar. Known by no one, bought by no one…

Completely undeserved! Just look at what is being said about the latest Gorvia Tinto 2019:

Listán Negro 2023 is a particularly refined, mineral wine with beautiful volcanic notes.

The vines — planted en franc de pied — grow between 300 and 1000 metres altitude.

Ageing is deliberately short: just 3 months in oak barrels, allowing the wine to retain its elegance and express its volcanic origins without any influence from the wood.

You probably know the red grape Carignan, or Carinyena in Catalan. A rather rustic variety. But with the right vineyard and a skilled winemaker, it often produces outstanding wines (such as l’Hostal by Joan d’Anguera, or Les Tosses by Terroir al Límit…).

But did you know there’s also such a thing as Carinyena blanca?

Once (and still today) an extremely rare variety, mainly found in northern Catalunya.

Ester Nin brought it back into the spotlight — in Priorat.

Albahra 2023

Envínate’s most underrated (and most affordable!) wine: Albahra

Ever heard of their project in Almansa? It’s a completely different region, located around the city of Albacete in the southeast of Spain. An area mostly known for cooperatives and bulk wine production. Quality-driven projects are extremely rare here.

Yet Albahra was actually the first wine we ever imported from Envínate. Each year, just a small pallet — offering outstanding value for money. Which is why sommeliers would snatch up most of it right away.

But starting with this 2023 vintage, we’ve managed to get a few more bottles in stock — so we can finally offer it to the wider public!

To me, there are two main advantages to Fincas de Ganuza:

Firstly, its price, and secondly, its almost Pinot Noir-like finesse.

We visited the estate again last September and tasted several older vintages. Truly stunning!

Due to a mix-up at the winery, the Villegas 2022 was left out of our delivery of Valtuille crus from that vintage at the end of 2024. A real shame, especially since it was the highest-rated cru of the lot!

And since it didn’t make sense to ship just 120 bottles all the way from Bierzo, we waited until last month to include them in a Castro Ventosa shipment. And that’s how our 120 bottles of Valtuille Villegas 2022 finally made their way to us!

The 2023 vintage of Les Danses is exceptionally refined and precise. Only around 6,000 bottles were produced of this pét-nat – a single fermentation in the bottle.

In Spain, they call this method “ancestral”. It actually predates the traditional method used for cava and Champagne.

In practice, it’s mostly used by natural winemakers or small producers, often resulting in lighter, more delicate styles.

That’s exactly what you get here.

Cote Luna 2020

We’ve just received the second vintage of his Cote Luna: 2020.

All from top terroirs, almost entirely planted with original rootstock — pre-phylloxera. The grapes come from five different sites across Castilla-León: from Toro, through Burgos, to Cigales and Segovia. All tiny vineyard plots, farmed biodynamically.

This Cote Luna is a unique blend of Aragonés, Petit Verdot and Garnacha — and it’s a powerful wine.

Enric Soler is undoubtedly not the most well-known name in our entire range. And there’s a simple reason for that: in a normal year, we receive only a very small allocation from him, and the few bottles we do get mostly end up in Belgium’s top fine dining restaurants.

Indeed! Peter Sisseck has also set his sights on Jerez de la Frontera. He acquired an old sherry house in Jerez (San Francisco Javier) and has already made his mark on it. His ambition: to craft terroir-driven wines with great aging potential.

His first saca (bottling) arrived at our store four years ago and sold out immediately. Now, the new saca has just landed—only 180 bottles of the fantastic Fino Viña Corrales.

Terroir al Limit: 2022 tasted on site last weekend! WAW what a finesse!

Last weekend we visited Priorat with our team at Dominik Huber's place in the lovely little wine village of Torroja and tasted the 2022s one by one.

The team and myself in particular were thoroughly impressed. Dominik stood and stands for the most elegant and refined style of Priorat wines, fully biodynamic and also consistently has the highest scores in the entire region!

But this time the visit was extra special because he has been working completely ‘oak-free’ since 2021. He no longer vinifies and ages his wines in barrels or foudres, but rather entirely on cement. So there is no more wood involved! A serious step in vinification and a bit of a gulp for us when he told us about it last year. But since this weekend we can be more than reassured. Before, his wines were already the perfect expression of Priorat's mineral terroir, but now, without wood aging, it has all become even more refined and mineral.

Impressive!

New wine from José Pariente: new appellation, new grape varieties, affordable and delicious!

Small productions, delicious wines, and more than affordable! All characteristics they already had with their José Pariente in Rueda. So the deal was quickly made.

And look: two years later, their first A Vilerma is on the market!

A beautiful Ribeiro with the original grape varieties (all from old vines) of the region: Treixadura, Lado, Loureira, complemented by the more familiar Albariño, Godello, and Torrontés. A colorful blend of typical Atlantic grape varieties.

Perfect to pair with shellfish and classic fish dishes.

Ricardo Palacios is the nephew of Alvaro Palacios. Together with his uncle, he produces some of the finest wines from Bierzo. This estate is undoubtedly among the top in Spain. They were the pioneers of biodynamic farming in this country.

We are very pleased with the 2022 wines! As always, available in limited quantities.
